The Preaching Matters Podcast

35 - Step 6 - Incubation

Dr. Alan Carr Episode 35

After we have taken all the steps necessary to study and prepare the material, we must also take the time to let the material take us. This process is known as incubation. We allow our minds to work with the material that has been gathered, and as we do, we are able to think the material through clearly. This aids the preacher in remembering the material when it comes time to stand and deliver the message.

God equipped each of us with a powerful tool: our brains! If we will give our minds to the job of considering and contemplating the sermon material, when the time comes to deliver the message, we will have more liberty than we can handle!

I suggest that the preacher learn to live in the message. He must first internalize the Word of God before he can deliver the finished product to others. As you allow the Word to speak to you first, you will be better able to communicate the Word to others.
