Show Notes

This is where all our hard work finally pays off. We are afforded the privilege of standing in from of others and declaring the message the Lord has given us. Our purpose during this time is to preach with passion.

The preacher needs to take every step necessary to be himself when he preaches. We are not to imitate others, but we are to be ourselves. Therefore, if you preach loud, then do so. If you preach quietly, then do so. In whatever way the Lord has prepared you, be yourself

If you have practiced good homiletics in the study when the time comes to stand before a congregation, there will be liberty and confidence, because you will know that you are preaching” thus saith the Lord”. Therefore, stand up boldly and preach the Word of God in His power and watch Him effect change in those who hear you speak. Do what Isaiah said and preach the Word, “Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.”, Isa. 58:1

I hope this material has proven helpful to you and has answered some of the questions you may have had about sermon preparation. Of course, I know this material is nowhere near comprehensive. The only way to become proficient in sermon preparation is to practice it often. As the Lord allows, give your life to the pursuit of good biblical exposition of the Word of God.

Be sure everything you do in the study and in the pulpit takes place under the umbrella of prayer and dependence upon the Lord. We can learn methods and we can develop good study habits, but if we study and our preaching doesn’t have the breath of God upon it, we are wasting our time and the time of those who are forced to hear us speak. Therefore, let the preacher beware that he lives a life that God can bless and that in every stage of sermon preparation and delivery he seeks the face of God. My friends, the power of God makes the difference between a mere sermon and a message from Heaven to the hearts of men.
